Corcoran Kennedy finally gets response from CEO of Ulster Bank re Ferbane branch

26th January 2015 - Aoife Carragher

Fine Gael TD for Laois/Offaly, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, has received assurances from the Chief Executive of Ulster Bank that the bank’s ATM machine will be retained in Ferbane, County Offaly. Deputy Corcoran-Kennedy has also been assured that Ulster Bank customers will be able to deposit money into their accounts in Ferbane Post Office.

“Following on from repeated representations on my part, and a meeting I held with Ulster Bank last Thursday afternoon in Dublin, I have today received a letter from Jim Brown, CEO of Ulster Bank, confirming that the bank’s ATM machine will be retained in Ferbane. Furthermore, Ulster Bank customers will be able to deposit money into the Ulster Bank accounts in Ferbane Post Office.

“I am deeply disappointed that the bank is determined to close, despite my best efforts and the efforts of the community action group and of the wider community. However, I have been determined from the start to ensure that the people of Ferbane retain key banking services.
The retention of withdrawal and deposit facilities represents a positive and pragmatic development.

“While this is a positive development I have called on the Ulster Bank to go further and consider the prospect of the building being made available to the community, or any other local community organisation. The building, which is owned by Ulster Bank, has a central location in the town of Ferbane.

“For the wellbeing of the town, it is important that this premises does not lie vacant.” said Deputy Corcoran Kennedy, who has pledged to continue to work with the local community and the bank to ensure the best possible resolution for the people of Ferbane.
