Conway welcomes establishment of Independent Review Group

4th June 2014 - Sarah Meade

Fine Gael Clare Senator and Seanad Spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Disability, Martin Conway, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement by Frances Fitzgerald TD, Minister for Justice and Equality, that an Independent Review Group has been established to undertake a review of the Department of Justice.

“This independent expert review group will undertake a review of the performance, management and administration of the Department.

“I am certain that the group will undertake a rigorous review of the workings of the Department and will produce a report that will provide indicators on the best way to reform the Department, which will ultimately ensure that the right structures are in place to ensure the best management and governance principles.

“The members of the Independent Review Group appointed by Minister Fitzgerald have a range of experience from the fields of change management, the legal profession, policing, public administration and governance.

“In light of the other wide ranging reforms of the justice system already in progress, it is very timely that the Independent Review Group has been established and will, I have no doubt, enable the Department to build on its considerable strengths and fully address any areas that need improvement.”
