Conway launches Clare video at Supported Employment conference

2nd June 2013 - Sarah Meade

Fine Gael Clare Senator and Seanad Spokesperson on Disability, Martin Conway, will today (Wednesday) officially launch a new video on behalf of Clare Supported Employment at the 11th European Union of Supported Employment (EUSE) conference, which is taking place in Dublin today. The event, which is being hosted by Irish Association of Supported Employment (IASE), was launched by the Dublin Lord Mayor Naoise Ó Muirí.

“This conference is an extremely positive awareness raising initiative, which provides a unique opportunity for countries throughout Europe and the world to showcase best practice in the area of supported employment for people with disabilities. There are some 550 delegates attending the conference from over 22 countries and it is being held here in Ireland for the first time in 13 years.

“I believe the conference will be of great assistance to people with disabilities in eliminating barriers to employment. As a person with a disability, I understand how daunting and difficult it can be to enter the workplace and participate fully in the labour market.

“The Government is committed to supporting people with disabilities to participate fully in the labour market. This has been demonstrated by the fact that Government departments have hit the target of 3.1% for the first time, for the percentage of staff they employ with disabilities.

“I would like to congratulate the IASE, who organised this very worthwhile and beneficial conference and I am honoured to have been asked to participate.”
