Continuing Brexit talks welcome – Richmond
30th October 2020 - Neale Richmond, TD
Fine Gael TD and spokesperson on European Affairs, Neale Richmond, has welcomed the commencement of more intensive Brexit negotiations in Brussels, stressing that a deal is in everybody’s interests.
“A No Deal Brexit would be a terrible eventuality for Ireland, all of the EU and more pertinently the UK.
“While there is no such thing as a good Brexit, for anyone, it is vital that all parties work to the last possible moment to secure some form of deal in order to limit the overall damage of Brexit.
“It is therefore very welcome that our negotiator, Michel Barnier, and his counterpart Lord Frost are continuing to work hard for an agreement in Brussels following a number of intense days of negotiations in London.
“However, regardless of what the result of this process is, there will be major changes on the 1st January.
“It is therefore vital that anyone in business logs onto www.gov.ie/brexit and goes through what measures they may have to take in relation to customs and checks.
“There is a Brexit Deal to be had, a realistic one that takes account of Ireland and the EU’s very clear priorities when it comes to a level playing field, governance and fisheries.
“Time is tight but continuing Brexit talks are welcome.”
