Condolences on the very sad passing of heroic and remarkable Vicky Phelan – O’Donnell

14th November 2022 - Kieran O'Donnell, TD

Limerick City Fine Gael TD, Kieran O’Donnell, has expressed his deepest condolences on the very sad passing of Vicky Phelan.

Deputy O’Donnell said, “I am very sorry to hear of the sad passing of the truly heroic and remarkable Vicky Phelan.

“I first got to know Vicky very well in February 2018 when I worked with her to enable her to access the drug Pembrolizumab (Pembro) which she had researched and identified. It was a privilege to work intensively with Vicky to navigate the challenging pathway to getting her treatment on this drug.

“Vicky had an open and disarming personality which immediately won people over. As a proud mother, her family were everything to her.

“She was a courageous, highly intelligent, and inspiring woman who fought her illness with bravery and dignity. Campaigning publicly on health issues throughout, Vicky leaves an incredible legacy of advocacy for women’s health.

“My deepest sympathies to Vicky’s husband Jim, her children Amelia and Darragh, her parents John and Gaby and the rest of the family on their deep personal loss which is felt by the entire nation.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h’anam dílis,” concluded Deputy O’Donnell.
