Coffey welcomes €90,000 in sports funding for Waterford

2nd December 2013 - Deborah Sweeney

Fine Gael Waterford Deputy, Paudie Coffey, has today (Thursday) welcomed €58,000 worth of funding for Waterford’s Regional Sports Centre (RSC) which will go towards the development of facilities at the centre. Furthermore, Minister Ring has announced €32,000 for a new sprung floor for the Dungarvan Sports Centre bringing the funding total to €90,000.

Deputy Coffey went on to say that this funding follows on from the €425,000 that was granted earlier this year for the relaying of the running track at the RSC.

“The Regional Sports Centre (RSC) is a state-of-the-art facility that serves the entire South East region and the delivery of this funding means that so far this year almost half a million euro has been invested in it. The Minister for Sport, Michael Ring TD, has supported the RSC over the course of the last number of years and came to Waterford to officially open the new running track earlier this year. This funding underlines the commitment that Minister Ring, and the Government, has for this facility. Furthermore, Minister Ring has announced €32,000 for a new sprung floor for the Dungarvan Sports Centre.

“The Regional Sports Campus plays an important role locally in athletics. In recent times, there has been a notable increase in demand for this facility and I have no doubt that this investment will encourage even greater demand.”
