City Manager for Drogheda a no-brainer – Butterly
Louth FG Candidate says position would drive progress for Drogheda
22nd September 2024 - Fine Gael Press Office
The potential appointment of a Drogheda City Manager could bring a more focused leadership to tackle key issues such as urban regeneration and infrastructure, a Fine Gael General Election candidate has said.
Cllr Paula Butterly, who is contesting the General Election in Louth said, a city manager could oversee daily operations and long-term planning while coordinating efforts to address challenges for Drogheda in a more streamlined manner.
Cllr Butterly said, “I fully support the idea of appointing a city manager. This role could be transformative for Drogheda, allowing for a single point of leadership that can focus exclusively on it’s needs.
“For too long, Drogheda has lacked the cohesive, consistent approach necessary to unlock its full potential. A city manager could bring that much-needed direction, ensuring that plans for revitalisation are implemented efficiently and with proper oversight.
“In particular, I believe a city manager could cut through the red tape that has slowed progress on key issues like derelict buildings and town centre regeneration.
“These are problems that have been holding Drogheda back for years, and they require a coordinated, focused effort to resolve.
“A city manager would be able to streamline the process, making sure that the solutions we need aren’t stuck in endless rounds of paperwork or passed between different departments. It would bring much-needed accountability to ensure these projects move forward.
“A regenerated Drogheda isn’t just good for those who live and work here—it’s essential for the entire region. We need someone who can look at the big picture, coordinate development, and ensure that we are building a Drogheda that works for everyone.
“I’m eager to meet with the Minister to discuss how this could become a reality for Drogheda. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I believe that this role could be the cornerstone of positive change for the town.
“With focused leadership and a fresh approach, we can ensure that Drogheda has the infrastructure, public services, and thriving town centre that it deserves,” Cllr. Butterly concluded.
