Byrne strongly condemns Ballyfermot shooting
3rd April 2014 - Sarah Meade
Fine Gael Dublin South Central TD, Catherine Byrne has strongly condemned the shooting which took place in Ballyfermot yesterday evening. A 26-year old man was seriously injured in the shooting, which occurred on the Lally Road.
“This is an appalling attack, which will no doubt leave people in Ballyfermot feeling unsafe and vulnerable.
“Those responsible for this shooting, and for other incidents which have occurred in the area, have absolutely no regard for the wellbeing and safety of local people.
“It is completely unacceptable that people going about their daily business should be exposed to such indiscriminate violence. Ballyfermot is a great community, which is being blighted by the criminal activities of a small minority.
“I would like to pay tribute to the efforts of the local Gardaí in Ballyfermot, who are doing tremendous work. The Community Policing Forum is making a real difference in the area, but unfortunately it is not possible for a member of the Gardaí to be present on every street corner or to prevent every crime.
“I would encourage any with any information on last night’s shooting to come forward, so those responsible can be reprimanded.”
