Business in Dublin needs certainty beyond Brexit – Durkan
10th May 2019 - Mark Durkan
Business and trade in Dublin need certainty in the current Brexit fog, according to Mark Durkan, Fine Gael MEP candidate for Dublin.
Mr Durkan said: “Brexit is the single biggest challenge to face this island in a generation, it changes all our future. It will impact on all of Ireland, but Dublin, as the engine room of the country and its direct links with the UK, will be affected fundamentally.
“The Irish drinks industry is an example of an all-island industry – fully integrated with seamless cross-border supply chains and production processes. The industry exports €1.9 billion worth of Irish produce to 140 markets around the world.
“My experience and expertise working on all-island issues have convinced me of the need to support vibrant all-Island industries such as brewing and distilling – which can turn global success into local returns.
“Matters around trade and new alignments will be crucial strands in the next EU Parliament and it is important that Dublin elects MEPs who support trade agreements that in turn will support the ongoing success of business, industry and jobs both here in our capital and across the country.”
