Boost for Ballymun with new Community Services Programme contract for the Rediscovery Centre – Rock

31st October 2018 - Noel Rock TD

Fine Gael T.D. for Dublin North West, Noel Rock has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement from the Department of Rural and Community Development that it will award a Community Services Programme (CSP) to the Rediscovery Centre, which is located at the heart of Ballymun.

Speaking on the matter, Deputy Rock said, “Today’s announcement that the Rediscovery Centre Company Limited is being awarded a two year Community Services Programme grant agreement for one manager and four full-time equivalents totalling €216,264 is a welcome development for the community in Ballymun. Having met senior staff at the centre recently, I was happy to support their application for this programme.

“The contract will allow for a grant agreement for one manager and four full-time equivalents. These staff members will continue to establish the Rediscovery Centre as a successful social enterprise and eco-destination which provides jobs and progression opportunities.

“The staff will be engaged to support the establishment of a viable eco-store as a retail collective, and provide a sustainable tourism offering and a unique corporate offering for events and meetings,” continued Deputy Rock.

“The work undertaken by the Rediscovery Centre is fascinating and was a welcome addition to Ballymun when it opened in 2017, transforming the old Ballymun Boiler House into a beautiful eco-centre. The centre will support the development of green jobs and skills, inspire sustainable living and support eco-innovation & entrepreneurship. I am hopeful that this will have a further positive impact on the Ballymun community,” concluded Deputy Rock.
