Better sports facilities in Clare will increase participation in sport – Conway
2nd December 2013 - Sarah Meade
Fine Gael Clare Senator, Martin Conway has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement by the Junior Minister at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD, to allocate funding of €58,000 for an artificial playing surface at Kilrush and €58,000 for improved facilities at Tim Smythe Park, Ennis.
“I am delighted that the Department of Sport, in equal partnership with Irish Public Bodies (IPB) and local authorities, has created a €3 millon fund to create and enhance sport and recreational facilities in each local authority areas.
“The projects will include the development of not just a new artificial playing surface at Kilrush but also floodlighting, security fencing and CCTV and the funding for Tim Smythe Park will result in new dressing rooms, showers and toilets.
“I have consistently called for increased funding for sporting facilities in Clare, which will inevitably increase the participation in and enjoyment of sports in Clare.
“The great success of our hurlers this year has shown that we can compete at the highest levels and improvements in sports facilities in Clare will no doubt ensure that the next generation of Clare sporting stars will achieve similar successes.”
