Best Wishes to Kildare Special Olympics Athletes

“I would like to extend my best wishes to the five athletes from Co. Kildare representing Ireland in the Special Olympics in Athens, Greece commencing this weekend” said Kildare North TD Anthony Lawlor.

Anne Marie Cooney, Eileen O’Loughlin, Simon Darragh, Lorraine O’Halloran and Conor MacGearailt, all from Kildare, are part of the 126 strong Irish team taking part in the Olympics. The Kildare team, which have spent many years training for this event, are partaking in a wide variety of sports from basketball, athletics and bocce to aquatics and equestrian sports.

“This is a huge personal honour for Anne Marie, Eileen, Simon, Lorraine and Conor, and for their families. Congratulations must also be extended to their Management Team and Coaches for all the hard work they have undertaken to prepare them for this big event. I am also delighted to note that a number of the Team Ireland coaches are also from Kildare €“ Kenneth Kavanagh (Athletics), Cyril Marah (Equestrian), Laura Cusack (Football).

“I will be watching with interest the progress of the five athletes during their time in Athens and wish them every success in their respective competitions” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
