Anthony Lawlor TD

Born and raised in Johnstown, Co. Kildare, Anthony attended Naas CBS, Newbridge College and graduated in Agricultural Science (UCD) in 1981. Having completed a HDip in Education and spent a brief spell as a teacher in Naas VEC school, Anthony travelled to Vanautu for 2 years. Here he worked as a teacher with the charity Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO). He returned to Ireland and continued teaching in Maynooth Secondary School before he embarked on a career in the agricultural sector. It was at this point he became involved in community activities and local politics.

Anthony was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2011 having served as an Independent County Councillor, from 1998 to 2004 and again from 2009 to 2011, as a member of Fine Gael.

At present, Anthony is a Member of the Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Committee and Chair of the internal Fine Gael European and Foreign Affairs Committee. He has been instrumental in the setting up of the Young Entrepreneur Awards and is currently involved in the reform of part-time labour regulations and apprenticeships.

Anthony regularly holds meetings with constituents, businesses and local authorities to find out what issues are affecting them, by providing advice and representing them at national level.   This work informs and influences both his local and national objectives and his priorities for the future.

In the Dail, Anthony has been very vocal on such issues as the need for an increase in the number of Gardai in Kildare North; reform in both housing and rent allowance; issues surrounding mental health; and youth unemployment.

An avid sports fan, Anthony is a great Kildare GAA and Leinster rugby supporter. He is a former President of Naas Rugby Club and is very involved with local GAA.
