Alternative company must be found for Leixlip site – Durkan
8th February 2017 - Bernard Durkan TD
“Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Bernard Durkan, has said that an alternative company must be found for the Leixlip site to be vacated by HP Inc.
“I know that the staff of HP Inc are shocked by today’s news that the company is to close.
“I want to reassure them that as their local Government TD I will be working hard to ensure that all the relevant agencies of the State come together now and prioritise finding another company for that site.
“As a hi-tech hub in Leinster, Leixlip has a huge amount to offer any company considering locating there. We have a highly skilled workforce, and great transport links with easy access across the country via the M4, as well as of course access to Dublin city, and its port and airport.
“Today’s announcement of job losses is no reflection on Leixlip; it is the result of a global efficiency strategy of the company involved.
“I know that the IDA is already working on helping to secure a buyer for the Leixlip site. The Minister for Jobs, Mary Mitchell O’Connor, has confirmed today that securing investment for Kildare and the surrounding region is a continuing priority.
“In the interim, before alternative employment can be found for HP staff, Minister Leo Varadkar has confirmed that the Department of Social Protection is going to brief staff on the State supports and re-training options available to them.
“It’s also important to highlight that the HP Inc announcement has no consequences whatsoever for the many people working for Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Leixlip. This is a completely separate company employing over 21,000 people in Kildare, Cork and Galway.”
