Almost €0.5m approved for development of St. Catherine’s Park – Keating

Fine Gael Dublin Mid West Deputy, Derek Keating, has welcomed the announcement that almost €0.5 million has been approved, under the Rural Development Programme, for the development of St. Catherine’s Park, at Lucan, Co. Dublin. The funding, which must now go back to the Fingal LEADER Partnership for final approval, will be used to build a new playground, a skate park and a BMX trail.
“The announcement by Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, that €493,385 has been sanctioned for approval for Laraghon Resident’s Association to develop and enhance of St. Catherine’s Park at Lucan, Co. Dublin. This funding is being made available under the Village renewal and development measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
“The total cost of the redevelopment project for St. Catherine’s is €657,846 so this funding will go a considerable way to getting the project off the ground and delivering for the local community of Lucan and beyond.
“The building of a new playground, a skate park and a BMX trail will act as a real draw for young people, of all ages, and will encourage them to become more active and to get involved in outdoor activities.
“The aim of the LEADER Programme is to improve the quality of life for the communities in receipt of funding. Ensuring that our parks and local amenities are fit for purpose and in good condition for the communities they serve is key to encouraging people to use them. This funding will make a huge difference to St. Catherine’s and to the people of Lucan and the surrounding areas.”
