Additional Funding for Roads in Kildare County Welcomes

9th September 2011 - Senator Anthony Lawlor

“I welcome the announcement made today (10th May 2011), by Transport Minister Leo Varadkar, that additional funding has been brought forward from the 2012 Budget for road improvements. This funding, which is part of the Government’s ‘Job’s Initiative’ is providing Kildare County Council with an additional €1.7 million under the Regional and Local Roads Investment Programme. Combined with the existing Budget for 2011 of €4.3 million, a total in excess of €6 million is now available to the Council for the upkeep and repair of local roads” said Kildare North TD, Anthony Lawlor.

Under this Programme, County Councils can use their own discretion to identify roads most in need of improvement in their area. The additional funding being provided under the Initiative will enable local authorities to bring forward works on roads which were not scheduled to take place until 2012. This initiative will particularly deal with roads badly affected during the adverse weather conditions experienced last winter, which are now in need of urgent repair.

“Not only will this additional funding help to improve the local infrastructure in the County but in the region of 1,000 jobs will also be created through this combined investment. This Initiative is proof that this Government is intent on improving the everyday lives of people and creating jobs” concluded Anthony Lawlor TD.
