Fine Gael selects Minister Colm Burke to contest Cork North Central constituency in General Election
5th September 2024 - Fine Gael Press Office
Minister Colm Burke has been selected by Fine Gael to represent the party in the Cork North Central constituency at the next General Election.
Party members selected Minister Burke tonight (Thursday) in a convention in the Clayton Silver Springs Hotel, which was chaired by Deputy David Stanton.
Fine Gael have now chosen 38 General Election candidates in 25 constituencies.
Minister Burke said: “I am honoured to have been selected to contest the upcoming General Election for Fine Gael in Cork North Central.
“Since my election to Dáil Éireann in 2020, I have worked to represent Cork North Central, both locally and nationally.
“I am seeking re-election because I want to build on the progress of the past five years and work for more and improved services for Cork North Central.
“From my years as a public representative, and recently in my role as Minister of State, I believe that I am the candidate with the necessary experience and qualities to deliver positive action.
“While we have made progress there is still more to do. We must build more homes, deliver the elective hospital in Glanmire and provide more primary care centres, including for Blarney, Glanmire and Mayfield.
“This is, of course, a changed constituency with new challenges. Mallow and Ballincollig are now part of Cork North Central. I have held meetings and clinics in these new areas.
“I look forward to engaging with Cork North Central voters in the upcoming campaign and asking them for their number one vote.”
