35,358 homes commenced in 2024
29th August 2024 - Alan Dillon, TD
Housing commencements continue to rise year on year, with 35,358 homes commenced in the first seven months of 2024, a Fine Gael Minister has said.
Alan Dillon TD, Minister of State in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, said:
“Figures published by my Department show commencement of homes being built across the country continues to increase year on year.
“In the first seven months of this year, over 33,000 homes have commenced. That is 240 homes being commenced every working day.
“Along with the figures published today, earlier this week we saw encouraging numbers of first-time buyers getting mortgage approvals.
“Fine Gael is working to ensure that more homes are being built for families in Ireland, making home ownership a reality by building private, affordable and social homes right across the country.
“We as a party will continue to support home ownership in the upcoming Budget.
“Sinn Fein has opposed the development of more homes at every turn by opposing developments right across the country and voting against schemes offering real support to purchase their own home.” Minister Dillon concluded.
