Sinn Féin must explain what areas in Ukraine are ‘safe’ for refugees – Carroll MacNeill
23rd July 2024 - Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, TD
Who are Sinn Féin consulting to identify ‘safe’ areas of Ukraine where refugees can be returned to, a Fine Gael Minister has asked.
European Minister Jennifer Carroll-MacNeill said Mary Lou McDonald’s party must come clean on who is providing them with their party policy on immigration.
Minster Carroll-MacNeill said in the immediate aftermath of their disastrous local elections results, their first instinct was to attack Ukrainian refugees.
Speaking on the Last Word on Today FM on June 10th last, Pearse Doherty said: ‘We should look at some, obviously, if is safe to return to parts of Ukraine at that time, then they will have to return.’[1]
The Fine Gael Minister said while Russian rocket attacks continue across Ukraine, Sinn Féin wants to send war refugees back to safe areas.
“Who are they consulting to determine these safe areas? Is it Putin? Perhaps he’ll tell Sinn Féin what areas he won’t bomb or target in Ukraine?
“Sinn Féin are scrambling on immigration and have performed more three-point pivots than a Russian battle tank in Donetsk,” she said.
“Who is providing Mary Lou and Sinn Féin with their speaking points?
“Who wrote this migration policy? Was it same person who wrote speaking notes for Pearse Doherty last month?
“Their goal now seems to be about weaponising Ukrainian refugees ahead of a General Election due to held here by next March.
“Currently, Ukraine has only 32pc of its energy infrastructure working because of the hybrid war on civilian infrastructure. Russia will target Ukrainian people and try to make their country unliveable this Winter.
“In the meantime, Sinn Féin plan to Meta weaponise war migration in a whole new way.
“We cannot take Sinn Féin seriously on anything, but especially not on migration.
“Sinn Féin loves the money from immigrants in the US but they shun the most vulnerable of immigrants and war refugees in Ireland and have shown so repeatedly in their desperate bid to chase votes,” Minster Carroll MacNeill said.
