Divisive Sinn Féin want to create more instability with no confidence Dáil stunt – Farrell

Sinn Féin have taken the side of the rioters who wreaked havoc in our capital last week by creating more instability with their no confidence motion in the Justice Minister, according to Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell.

The Dublin Fingal East TD said he is fully positive that the no confidence motion tabled by Sinn Féin in Minister Helen McEntee will be defeated and Government will not be distracted from delivering stronger safer communities.

Deputy Farrell said: “The deplorable events of November 23^rd appalled the nation and triggered conversations that were required about safety in our cities and how Government can provide more support to An Garda Siochana to carry out their work.

“The Irish people are demanding solutions, not political theatre. With their no confidence stunt, Sinn Féin want to waste valuable Dáil time and distract from tackling the issues that matter on behalf of to the people.

“The sad reality is that Sinn Féin do not want to see many of the challenges facing our country solved because they believe it increases their electoral chances in the next General Election.

“If they were serious about delivering solutions, they would work with Government and develop coherent policies of their own on housing, climate, health and justice.

“Unfortunately, this is not the case as their half-baked policies aren’t worth the paper they’re written on and they launch attacks on anyone trying to make progress.

“The public need stability, Sinn Fein’s manipulation and divisive language regarding the events of November 23^rd show no regard for the greater good. They are more interested in ensuring heads roll for the actions of a mindless mob of thugs who unleashed all of their fury on our city.

“Minister Helen McEntee has demonstrated leadership since the first day of entering office. Leading on landmark legislation with regard to domestic, sexual and gender-based violence; leading recruitment and retention innovation in conjunction with An Garda Siochana; introducing stronger sentencing for a range of crimes; and introducing new offences for stalking and no-fatal strangulation for the first time in Ireland.

“On top of this, the Minister is working to empower Gardaí in the carrying out of their duties, introducing body cams, automatic number plate recognition and more.

“Minister McEntee enjoys my full support and that of my party; we’re interested in results, not rhetoric, solutions not soundbites. The Minister and Government are making real progress and we will not be deterred by political point scoring,” Deputy Farrell concluded.
