New chapter beckons for EU/UK relations with protocol deal – O’Dowd
27th February 2023 - Fergus O'Dowd TD
Today’s breakthrough deal to regulate trade in Northern Ireland has been warmly welcomed by a Fine Gael TD, who says it signals the beginning of a new chapter in EU/UK relations.
Fine Gael TD for Louth and Chair of the Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Fergus O’Dowd said: “Today’s decisive breakthrough will, I believe, ultimately benefit Ireland, across all parts of this island.
“This deal cements the relationship between the UK and the EU as allies, trading partners and friends,” Deputy O’Dowd continued.
“I hope that this latest important development will now provide a pathway to restoring the Northern Irish executive and to re-establishing the North-South bodies.”
