Staging of Women’s Irish Open in Clare is a massive boost for the county – Carey

3rd March 2022 - Joe Carey TD

The staging of the Women’s Irish Open in Dromoland Castle in Clare will have huge benefits for the local economy and hospitality sector, according to local Fine Gael TD Joe Carey.

Deputy Carey welcomed news that Dromoland Castle has been chosen as the venue for the Women’s Irish Open this September – the first women’s professional tournament in the country in 10 years.

Deputy Carey said, “This is really fantastic news for County Clare, the Mid West and Ireland that Dromoland Castle is to host the Women’s Irish Open this September.

“Irish women’s professional golf is at an all-time high and this event will lead to the further development of women’s golf in Ireland.

“Golf provides a wonderful sporting outlet for people of all ages, while it also makes a massive contribution to tourism particularly along the West Coast.

“Hosting a ladies’ European event in Dromoland will drive the development of women’s sport even further.

“Over the past year it has been an absolute pleasure to work with Dromoland Castle, Golf Ireland and Sport Ireland to ensure that this event took place.

“I am really looking forward to Dromoland Castle hosting a hugely successful event this September hosting top world women’s golfers while also showcasing what County Clare can offer to a global audience.”
