Fine Gael remains firmly committed to MetroLink project- Farrell
21st September 2021 - Alan Farrell TD
Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell has vowed to continue his work to ensure progress on Metro Link following comments today in Dáil Eireann from Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, who stated there has been no delay to the project.
Deputy Farrell, who represents Dublin Fingal, said: “Metro Link, as everyone in North Dublin will know, is vital for the future of our community.
“We are among the fastest growing populations in the country, the necessity of providing a modern transport network cannot be understated.
“In the Dáil today, An Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar restated Government’s commitment to Metro Link and DART West, which he said were two really important projects for Dublin.
“He also said there had been no Government decision to delay these projects and that he was not aware of any proposal to delay them.
“As a representative of Dublin Fingal, any significant delay in the delivery of this project is unacceptable to me.
“The revised National Development Plan is currently being finalised and I believe will prioritise the delivery of MetroLink. This project is vital for Dublin’s transport network and will assist us in reducing our transport emissions, a key priority for Government. It will also provide much needed connections between Dublin City, Dublin Airport and Swords.
“Transport Infrastructure Ireland has indicated as recently as two weeks ago that additional months will be required for Metrolink, prior to proceeding to the planning phase of this project.
“I look forward to continuing my work with TII and my colleagues in Government to deliver this project as quickly as possible,” Deputy Farrell said.
