Sinn Féin motion distracts from Covid-19 & Brexit – the real issues of Government – Bruton

6th November 2020 - Richard Bruton TD

Sinn Féin’s motion in the Dáil next week is proof they wish to engage in narrow tribal politics and bring down the Government.

Chair of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Richard Bruton said: “At a time when people are struggling with the extraordinary difficult challenges that Covid and Brexit are presenting and after an extremely comprehensive debate in the Dáil on Tuesday, it is incredible Sinn Féin wish to waste time engaging in narrow tribal politics on a motion that seeks to bring down the Government.

“An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar comprehensively answered all of the questions put to him in the debate on Tuesday and apologised for the manner in which he sent the document.

“At all times he was acting with the best of interests of patients to deliver a new GP contract. He was also acting on the agreement by Cabinet to keep the NAGP informed on the talks.

“It has been accepted that it is not best practice and should have been done in a more formal manner. The agreement itself made significant progress in achieving universal healthcare in Ireland,” Deputy Bruton said.
