Only Fools tout tickets – Touts’ days are numbered as Rock’s law reaches Dáil
29th January 2019 - Noel Rock TD
Only fools would attempt to tout tickets now according to Deputy Noel Rock, as his Bill to end the practice moves closer to becoming law.
Speaking in advance of a Dáil debate on his proposed new law, Fine Gael TD Noel Rock said: “People are fed up at seeing tickets to sporting events and concerts being touted for outrageous prices.
“The Six Nations game against England this weekend has seen tickets selling for €2,700 online. This is completely unacceptable.
“The proposed legislation would ban the resale of tickets above face value in designated venues with a capacity of 1,000 or more.
“The use of bot software to purchase tickets in excess of the number permitted by event organisers would also be prohibited.
“In addition, the legislation will give effect to the commitment given to UEFA to ban the unauthorised transfer and use of tickets for matches and official events taking place in Ireland during the Euro 2020 championship.
Deputy Rock continued: “This legislation, which I introduced over two years ago, has been stuck in the system for a long time now, and it’s quite clear that it is both necessary and overdue.
“I am delighted it is advancing to Second Stage in the Dáil and I look forward to debating touting issues with my parliamentary colleagues.”
“It’s time to push on, enact this law and make sure the playing field is levelled for real fans of sport and music alike,” the Dublin North West TD said.
