New school is great news for Citywest – Brophy

17th April 2018 - Colm Brophy TD

The announcement of a new secondary school for the Citywest/Saggart area is great news for the community, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Dublin South-West TD, Colm Brophy said: “I’m delighted with the announcement of a new post-primary school for the Citywest area.

“I want to particularly acknowledge the work of the parents and children of our existing primary schools who have campaigned for a new secondary school.

“The new school is due to open in 2020 and is reflective of the growing population in the area. Fine Gael in Government is determined that no child is left behind in economic recovery and we should use our strengthening economy to become a leader in the provision of world-class education and skills.

“The Action Plan for Education 2018, announced by my Fine Gael colleague the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, sets out our aim to make the Irish Education and Training service the best in Europe by 2026.

“If we are to have the best education and training system in Europe, we must ensure that we adequately prepare for this future need by planning for the necessary modern school facilities now,” the Dublin South-West TD said.

This new school is part of a programme of schools in the area, with the new Kingswood school under construction and a new school in Firhouse, which will commence the planning process shortly.”
