Bank of America endorses Sandyford – Richmond

Fine Gael Senator, Neale Richmond, has welcomed the announcement by Bank of America that it intends to make Dublin its European base following the Brexit vote.

Senator Richmond said the move is a particular endorsement for the Bank’s operations in Sandyford.

Senator Richmond said: “This is a tremendous boost of confidence for the Sandyford office which together with the bank’s city centre offices, now employs more than 700 high paying roles in Ireland.

“Bank of America has had Irish operations for over 50 years and this is another example of our committed and skilled workers acting as ambassadors for the Irish economy to attract additional investment.

“In the coming months we will have additional clarity on the exact number of jobs coming to Ireland, but these will be front office roles which attract high value salaries.

“As part of the Irish Government Brexit’s strategy, the IDA, the Central Bank and the Department of Finance have made many of their officials available to provide advice so that we can attract as much investment to offset many of the threats Brexit has led to.

“This is another vote of confidence in Ireland and its expanding financial services sector. It shows that our track record, pro-business environment, highly skilled workforce and an unwavering commitment to the European single market continue to appeal to investors.

“We can see clearly that the expansion of the Sandyford Business District has led to South Dublin becoming a prime location for investment with over 1,000 new jobs being announced in Sandyford in recent months.

“We have expanded Luas lines, attracted a top international school and improved cycling facilities all to ensure we are a prime destination for businesses considering moving to Ireland or even expanding existing operations; the new Sandyford Business Improvement District is actively promoting the area and working to boost the product on offer with investment in free public wifi amongst other ideas.

“Every job created in our area, creates at least another three jobs, providing many opportunities for local residents as well as attracting talented individuals.

“Brexit is unquestionably a bad thing for Ireland overall. However it does provide some opportunities and it is vital these opportunities are capitalised on in order to offset the overall negativity.”
