85 new social housing units will help to ease waiting lists in Tallaght – Brophy

19th December 2016 - Colm Brophy TD

Fine Gael TD for Dublin South-West, Colm Brophy, has said that a new rapid delivery social housing project will help to ease housing waiting lists in Tallaght, with 85 new units being provided.

“My Fine Gael colleague, the Housing Minister Simon Coveney, has confirmed to me that a new social housing project has been approved for Tallaght, with 85 units to be delivered under the Department’s Local Authority Housing Capital Programme.

“These new social housing units will be delivered under the Rapid Build Programme to ensure quick delivery. This Programme is a key part the Government’s Action Plan for Housing, designed to prioritise and speed up exactly these types of developments to help ease social housing waiting lists. A total of 1,500 rapid-delivery units will be delivered by 2018 under the plan: 200 by end 2016; 800 in 2017 and 500 in 2018.

“The approved cost of this Tallaght project is €21,294,633, which is tax payers’ money very well spent if it means helping local families to move out of inappropriate temporary accommodation, such as hotels, and into a permanent secure home.”
