Govt approves additional €1m for Sligo County Council – McLoughlin

16th December 2016 - Tony McLoughlin TD

Fine Gael TD for Sligo-Leitrim, Tony McLoughlin, has today (Friday) received confirmation from Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Simon Coveney, that an additional €1 million has been approved by Government for Sligo County Council’s budget for this year.

“I strongly welcome the approval by Government of an additional €1 million for Sligo County Council’s 2016 budget.

“This €1 million, coming from Local Property Tax, is a significant boost for our local authority here in Sligo and is designed to restore financial stability to the Council after a difficult few years of deficits.

“The Council has worked closely with the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government on a Financial Plan and the additional €1 million was contingent on the Council achieving certain targets as set out in that Plan.

“It is great to see the Council achieving the targets they were set. The Council accounts for 2015 show a surplus which meant they qualified for this additional €1 million from Government. I commend the County Manager and all staff at the Council for their efforts to bring Sligo County Council back to a stronger financial position and I know the Council can now push on from here and invest in a brighter future for people and communities throughout the county.”
