€5 million for Fingal road safety schemes

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal Alan Farrell has said that significant funding has been allocated by Government to Fingal County Council for road improvements and maintenance in 2013.

“The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, under the remit of Minister Leo Varadkar TD, has ringfenced over €5 million for the safety and restoration of roads in Fingal.

“One of the specific improvement schemes has identified that funding of €750,000 will be spent on improving the Naul Road in Balbriggan, a project that has been highlighted on many occasions over the past number of months. Additionally, improvements will also be made to Gerrardstown Bridge on the R108 at a cost of €50,000.  

“The remaining €4 million will be available in 2013 for road and pavement restoration, road improvements, safety inspections and resurfacing throughout the Fingal area.

“This funding is on top of €5 million allocated to Fingal County Council via the National Roads Authority for the widening of the Drynam to Lissenhall Road which will significantly reduce traffic congestion for commuters.

“Road safety is an important priority for this government and funding for these schemes will ensure that roads, bridges and footpaths remain at a satisfactory standard of safety for commuters and pedestrians Dublin Fingal.”
