NuVasive to establish International Operations Centre and create 30 Jobs in Waterford -Coffey

30th June 2014 - Senator Paudie Coffey

Fine Gael Waterford Deputy Paudie Coffey TD has welcomed news that NuVasive will create 30 positions in Waterford over the coming period. NuVasive is the third-largest spine company in the U.S., and the fourth-largest globally and this is a massive boost for Waterford and the South East Region and follows on from the investment of Nypro earlier on this year.

“NuVasive develops over 80 products spanning lumbar, thoracic, and cervical applications, neuromonitoring services, and a biologics portfolio. Our products have been used in thousands of spine surgeries. NuVasive had revenue of approximately $620.3 million for 2012 and employs more than 1,500 people.

“This is a boost for Waterford after what has been a difficult few weeks for Waterford City. This investment shows that Waterford and its workforce can compete and attract investment from global companies.

“This company established its operations in Waterford last year and it is good to see them grow and start recruiting for new positions. This investment will result in Nuvasive establishing its International Operations Centre in Waterford, with the creation of up to 30 highly
skilled roles over the next two to three years. NuVasive has begun hiring
supply chain, customer service, accounting, and IT positions.

“It is positive that another IDA supported business has brought new investment for Waterford and NuVasive will join other pharma and healthcare companies in the South East like Nypro, Genzyme, MSD and GSK. These 30 jobs is the second IDA announcement for Waterford in the last 12 months alone and shows us that Waterford can compete globally when trying to attract investment.

“Challenges still remain and many people are still struggling but in 2013 we have saw an increase of 15,300 people employed in the South East Region. The Live Register in Waterford is at a 5 year low and with IDA investments coming into the City for the first time in many years, along with Irish Companies like Eishtec, Dawn Meats, Smartply, Glanbia, Flahavans, Feedhenry and Eirgen Pharma it will give people hope for the future.

“NuVasive are currently advertising for positions to be filled and I am hopeful that they will have a long and successful relationship with the people and City of Waterford; who have once again shown themselves to be of the highest calibre of employees on the Globe.”
