St David’s National Champions in “F1 in Schools” Competition welcomed to Dáil Éireann by Deputy Harris
28th May 2013 - Simon Harris TD
Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Simon Harris has today (Tuesday) welcomed the Bardahl Racing Team from St. David’s Seconday School, Greystones to Dáil Éireann.
The Bardahl Team consisting of students Joe Moran, Conor Darcy, Patrick Flaherty and Christopher Lynch have recently been crowned the Irish National Champions in the “F1 in Schools” competition for 2013. They will now represent Ireland in the international finals in Austin, Texas in November.
“F1 in Schools” is an annual competition with over 1 million participants from more than 40 countries. Its goal is to teach students about science, technology, engineering and maths by challenging them to design, manufacture and race a small scale F1 car. The Irish leg of the competition is sponsored by the Irish Computer Society.
Speaking about the Bardahl Team success, Deputy Harris said, “I am so delighted with the achievement of the Bardahl Team. These students have done St David’s, our town of Greystones, the County of Wicklow and indeed now our country proud. I wish to congratulate them both as a past of student of St David’s and as a TD for the constituency.”
“These students are an example of Ireland’s ability to compete on the world stage and I know I speak for the community when I say we all wish them well in the international finals and we must do everything we can to support them. I know that there will be fundraising activities in Greystones in the coming weeks to assist them in raising funds to get to the final and to compete there and I have no doubt the community will rally behind them, as it always does,” continued Deputy Harris.
“I was really pleased to have an opportunity to welcome these exceptional students to Leinster House and to congratulate them, their teachers and the school community. I look forward to welcoming them back as world champions!,” concluded Deputy Harris.
