Kehoe encourages constituents to apply for positions at Great Island Power Station

GOVERNMENT Chief Whip & Minister of State Paul Kehoe TD has encouraged his constituents in County Wexford to apply for new job opportunities available at the SSE Great Island Power Station.

Speaking on the vacancies, Minister Kehoe said:

“I have been informed by human resources at SSE Ireland that they are now recruiting for 19 positions relating to the operation of the new power station. These jobs include engineering, technical, supervisory and management roles.

“The gas fired power plant currently being built near Campile will give a boost the local economy in the New Ross area. I understand that 400 jobs will be created during the construction process and at present there are over 300 people working on site in Campile.

“I am also pleased with the local employment created by this construction project as 85% of the current project workforce at The Great Island resides in the Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny area”.

The €330 million development is expected to be commissioned in 2014 and will generate enough electricity to power around half a million homes.
