Deirdre Clune welcomes Children’s Referendum on Saturday November 10th

9th September 2012 - Deirdre Clune MEP

Fine Gael Senator, Deirdre Clune has welcomed the announcement from An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny that the Children’s Referendum is to be held on Saturday, November 10th.

“I am delighted the Children’s Referendum is to be held on November 10th which is a Saturday.

“The decision to hold the vote over the weekend is a positive step and I hope that it will increase the number of voters on the day.

“Working parents who may have found it difficult to vote during the working week now have the opportunity to cast their vote on a more convenient day.

“The Children’s Referendum is a unique opportunity for Ireland to place the wellbeing of children as our highest priority.

“If the Referendum is passed I believe it will have a profound impact on the attitude towards children and how they are treated in this country.

“The Children’s Referendum puts the children themselves at the focus of every decision that is taken concerning their welfare.

“I am confident that there is a sufficient period of time to fully debate the issues surrounding the Children’s Referendum.

“I intend to vigorously campaign for a YES vote and I will be encouraging my constituents to vote Yes on November 10th.”
