New teleoc machine to improve clinical evaluation for Midlands patients – Bannon
3rd November 2015 - James Bannon TD
Fine Gael TD for Longford-Westmeath, James Bannon, has been informed by the HSE that a new teleoc machine will become operational in the Midlands Regional Hospital by the end of 2015.
“The HSE have recently informed me that a new teledoc machine purchased under the TRASNA stroke programme will become operational in the Midlands Regional Hospital by the end of 2015.
“Telemedicine equipment has been provided to Irish hospitals for clinical evaluation of patients with a wide range of conditions, including critical care medicine, stroke, neurology, rheumatology, dermatology, and other illnesses. Clinical application of such equipment is based on local patient needs at individual hospitals, including but not limited to stroke care.
“The equipment is fully installed in the Midlands Regional Hospital and training has already been provided for staff, however it is expected that the hospital will have begun using the equipment for clinical care by the end of 2015. The fact that further services and equipment is being provided highlights the Government’s commitment to ensuring the Midlands Regional Hospital is able to provide state of the art medical services.
“Patients attending Midlands Regional Hospital are receiving excellent care from experienced, highly qualified staff. The Hospital is a vital facility for the people of Westmeath, Longford and further afield. I have always argued that the hospital must be supported and fully resourced at all costs in order to maintain its valuable contribution to the community.”
