New Action Plan for Jobs to deliver 28,000 jobs for the North West and North East – Fitzpatrick

1st December 2015 - Peter Fitzpatrick TD

Fine Gael TD for Louth, Peter Fitzpatrick, has said that the Action Plan for Jobs North West/North East which covers all the border counties aims to deliver 28,000 extra jobs for the area.
“The Action Plan for Jobs North West/North East, which was launched today by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, will seek to build on existing strengths and assets of the Louth area to maximise enterprise growth and job creation.

“Since the launch of the Action Plan for Jobs in 2012, the number of people signing on the Live Register in Louth has reduced by almost 30%. More local jobs are being created and the number of people emigrating has significantly decreased.

“We know that the recovery is underway, but more needs to be done to ensure the people of Louth feel its benefits. The border counties have particular challenges to face that do not exist in other parts of the country, but we also have culture, heritage and landscape that are individual. Harnessing these strengths is at the centre of the new regional plan launched today.

“Based on all the evidence and the strong buy-in for the process up to this point, it is realistic to target 28,000 additional jobs in the North West and North East region by 2020.

“I want to commend all of the stakeholders from across the region, including many employers who have participated in the process up to now. This Government is committed to keeping the recovery going and to ensuring that spreads throughout the country.

“Over 135,000 jobs have been created in Ireland since 2012 and the Government predicts that the goal of 28,000 more jobs for the North West and North East regions is deliverable in the coming years. This means 28,000 extra pay packets coming into communities and 28,000 individuals and families who can afford to lead better lives.

“Based on the success nationally of the Action Plan for Jobs, I firmly believe that this regional approach with locally based stakeholders will yield positive growth in investment and jobs.

“The Government has committed up to €250 million in funding over the next five years to support the Regional Action Plans.  I am confident that the Action Plan for Jobs North West/North East will deliver for Louth.”
