Clear need for ticket touting legislation in 2016 – Rock
7th October 2016 - Noel Rock TD
Fine Gael TD for Dublin North West, Noel Rock has today (Friday) called on the Government to move forward with publishing his Bill to ban over face value ticket touting. The Deputy’s call comes in the wake of reports that Coldplay tickets went on sale on a secondary market this morning, before Ticketmaster even sold out the shows.
“I believe today’s events have shown that the Government needs to press ahead with legislation to prevent over face value ticket reselling. Ticket touts are gouging hard working people left, right and centre with absolutely disgraceful price demands,” said Deputy Rock.
“I’ve been at work on my own Private Member’s Bill on this topic and I have been calling for legislation to be introduced for a while now. The Government must act now to protect consumers. As part of our hosting of games for Euro 2020, we must enact legislation preventing over face value ticket touting. I’m asking ‘Why not enact it this year?’,” continued Deputy Rock.
“Consumers are already facing high day to day costs in insurance, rents, etc. They should not have to pay over face value for something that should be an enjoyable experience. We should be in the business of protecting consumers and their rights. Life is expensive enough without paying €800 for a ticket to see Coldplay” concluded Deputy Rock.
