Cancellation of tomorrow and Friday’s Luas strike welcome news for commuters – Madigan
25th May 2016 - Josepha Madigan TD
Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown, Josepha Madigan, said that the cancellation of tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday’s Luas strike is very welcome news for commuters.
“I welcome this positive step and the fact that SIPTU representatives have now accepted an invitation to attend a meeting with Transdev at the Labour Court tomorrow.
“We have had 12 days of strikes already and with over 100,000 people relying on the Luas every day, I have been contacted by many of my constituents, whose daily lives have now been disrupted on a number of occasions by this long-running dispute.
“I’m delighted that the Luas workers have called off the strikes which had been planned for tomorrow and Friday, it will be an enormous relief to commuters.
“Dublin needs a functioning Luas system to make this city work. It is a vital part of the city infrastructure, relied on by one in ten Dubliners. The strike has caused huge disruption for twelve days. A full resolution needs to be found to this dispute soon, before commuters face further frustration and inconvenience.”
