Taoiseach to meet with President of the European Council and President of the European Commission

5th February 2015 - Enda Kenny

The Taoiseach will be in Brussels today for meetings with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk and the President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker.

The Taoiseach will be emphasising the need to promote stability, jobs and growth in advancing the European project. The meetings will also provide an opportunity to exchange views on the main issues facing the Union, such as the current economic situation in Europe, including in Greece, relations with Russia and the Ukraine, and a number of specific issues including EU/US trade negotiations (TTIP), EU/UK relations and the European Fund for Strategic Investment as well as discussion of the Commission Work Programme and the agendas for forthcoming European Councils.
The meetings take place ahead of next week’s informal meeting of the European Council.

These will be the first bilateral meetings the Taoiseach will have had with President Tusk and President Juncker since they took over as heads of the Council and Commission at the end of last year
