10th June 2015 - Susan Moss
Taoiseach Enda Kenny is today attending the Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in Brussels with other EU leaders together with Prime Ministers and Presidents from participating Latin American and Caribbean countries. The Taoiseach will be accompanied at the summit by the Minister of State for European Affairs Dara Murphy.
The overarching theme of the Summit is “Shaping our common future: working for prosperous, cohesive and sustainable societies for our citizens”.
Before travelling to the Summit the Taoiseach said:
“Europe and CELAC countries have many shared interests, particularly in developing our economies, as well as shared challenges – environmental change and the fight against poverty.
With GDP of almost $6 trillion and a population of nearly 600 million, the Latin American and Caribbean region offers significant potential for Ireland and Europe to strengthen trade and economic cooperation in the coming years.”
