Sale of Johnson and Johnson plant presents employment opportunity – Coonan

Fine Gael TD for Tipperary, Noel Coonan, has said that the sale of the former Johnson and Johnson plant in Cashel to a major pharmaceutical company has the potential to create high skilled jobs in the region.

“It has been confirmed that the former Johnson and Johnson plant in Cashel has been sold to a major pharmaceutical company. The details of the sale have not yet been revealed but there are reports that the purchaser is Amneal pharmaceutical – the 7th largest manufacturer of unbranded prescription products in the U.S.

“I have contacted the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton to find out what happens next and how we can move forward to create new employment for the people of South Tipperary.

“Minister Bruton has been in touch with the IDA in relation to this sale. The IDA have confirmed that they are prepared to work with the new owner at the appropriate time to assist in delivering high value, sustainable jobs for Cashel. The IDA may be in a position to offer an appropriate package of grants based on a viable and sustainable business plan, as they did for J&J when they operated the facility.

“I welcome the news that the plant has been sold and I commend the Government representatives, as well as Joe Hayes, for the role they played in securing the deal.

“This sale is extremely important for the community in South Tipperary and the town of Cashel. I look forward to hearing more good news about the site’s development.”
