Deering holds positive meeting with Min for Transport on Dublin/Tullow route
10th March 2015 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Pat Deering, today (Tuesday), held a very positive meeting with the Minister for Transport, Paschal Donohue TD, at which the future of Bus Éireann Route 5 was discussed.
“Bus Éireann, Route 5 travels between Dublin and Rosslare via Tallaght, Baltinglass, Rathvilly, Tullow, Kildavin and Bunclody. This is a vital link for the people of Carlow and I appealed to the Minister to do everything in his power to halt the planned closure of this route on the 29th March.
“During the course of our meeting Minister Donohue assured me that he is committed to finding a solution for those affected by planned closures.
“The Minister outlined that negotiations are ongoing between the Department of Transport and the National Transport Authority. He is fully aware of the impact that the closure of this route would have.
“I feel progress was made at today’s meeting and I am hopeful of a positive outcome for the benefit of the people of Carlow.”
