Call to all Meath and Louth nurses working abroad: There are jobs for you in Drogheda! – McEntee
21st August 2015 - Daniel Rowan
Fine Gael TD for Meath East, Helen McEntee, is sending a strong message to Meath and Louth nursing graduates who are working abroad: “There are 67 nursing jobs for you at home in Drogheda.”
Deputy McEntee said: “Insufficient nursing staff numbers is one of the reasons for the persistent overcrowding at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Last February the Government agreed to provide 88 additional permanent nursing posts and 65 more beds for Drogheda to solve the overcrowding problem, but 67 nursing positions are still vacant today’.
“Hundreds of people from my generation in this region – including many nurses – were forced to emigrate when Fianna Fáil wrecked the Irish economy a few years ago. My message to Meath and Louth nurses who are working abroad today is this: There are jobs for you in Drogheda. Please consider coming home. These posts will be recruited on 100% salary.
“When these posts are filled and when the new beds are operational, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda will be an excellent place for young nurses to work. In recent years the hospital has been upgraded with a new Emergency Department; a new Coronary Care Unit and additional cardiology day beds; a new Medical Day Unit; a new Medical Short Stay Unit; a new 3-storey accommodation building; and a new Advanced Medical Assessment Unit.
“The Irish Government is very strongly committed to the hospital – the Minister for Health Dr Leo Varadkar speaks to me regularly about his support for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital as a safe environment for patients and staff.”
