2nd September 2015 - Daniel Rowan
Peter Fitzpatrick, Fine Gael TD for Louth, has said that the announcement by the Minister for Jobs, Richard Bruton TD that a new distillery and visitor centre will open in the Drogheda. The Boann Distillery and Visitor Centre will incorporate a whiskey distillery; Boyne Brewhouse craft brewery and taproom; a visitor centre which will host distillery and brewery tours; a 120 seater restaurant; whiskey bar; private event space; and a gift shop.
“It is great to see new, job creating businesses emerging from Louth. The Boann Distillery and Visitor Centre will provide employment to over 80 people and help attract people into Drogheda and the region.
“This is a highly ambitious €20 million investment. The aim is for the Boann Distillery to become Ireland’s leading independent distillery and craft brewery. Boann is ideally situated at the gateway to the Boyne Valley which lies between Dublin and Belfast.
“Ireland’s indigenous food and drink industry is highly regarded and has a reputation for excellence. It is extremely encouraging to see a high end operation such as this emerging from county Louth. Ireland’s food and drink industry offers massive potential for regional employment, which is a major focus of the
Government’s 2015 Action Plan for Jobs.
“The 80 jobs created will come as a significant boost to the town of Drogheda and the visitors that I hope the venue will attract will be of wider benefit to local businesses. I look forward to Boann opening in 2016.”
