80 new jobs for Drogheda show the recovery is taking hold – O’Dowd
2nd September 2015 -
Fine Gael TD for Louth, Fergus O’Dowd, has said that 80 new jobs for Drogheda show the economic recovery is beginning to take hold locally
“Today’s news that the Boann Distillery and Visitor Centre, a state-of -the-art distillery, soon to open in the heart of the Boyne Valley, will create over 80 new jobs is welcome and shows the recovery is spreading.
“The new facility is due to open in 2016 and will include a craft brew house, whiskey distillery and visitor centre. A restaurant and bar, gift shop and event space will complete the new complex that is set to become a significant local attraction.
“The announcement, which is an investment of €20 million in Drogheda, was made today by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD.
“This innovative, indigenous Irish industry is exactly the type of company the Government seeks to support through the Action Plan for Jobs. Around 1,300 new jobs per week are now being added to the economy and 125,000 new jobs have been added since the launch of the Action Plan in February 2012.
“Our plan is to replace all the jobs lost during the crash by 2018. Unemployment is the main source of inequality and unfairness in our society today. More jobs mean less tax for people working and more revenue to provide better services.
“Ireland’s food and drink industry offers massive potential for regional employment and I have no doubt this announcement will lead to sustainable local employment for many years to come.”
