15th year of Marlay Park concerts planned – Hayes

10th February 2015 - Aoife Carragher

Fine Gael MEP for Dublin, Brian Hayes, has welcomed plans announced by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and promoters MCD for concerts this summer in Marlay Park, Rathfarnham.

“These concerts are a huge boost for Dublin in terms of tourist revenue as well as from a cultural point of view, with  some top acts lined up to play.

“Marlay Park has hosted concerts since 2001 with major international acts such as Oasis, Green Day and Coldplay taking to the stage over the years. The Park has been maintained as a public facility since the 1970s.

“Four standalone concerts will be held in Marlay Park from the 1st to the 7th July. Promoters MCD have confirmed that Swedish DJ, Avicii, will headline one of these nights.

“Only 30,000 tickets will be sold for each of these concerts, allaying any concerns that local residents may have.

“The hugely popular Longitude festival will return for its third year where headline acts will include The Chemical Brothers, Alt-J and Bray native Hozier. 20,000 tickets will be sold for each night of Longitude.

“An excellent summer of live music lies ahead in Marlay Park, these concerts bring in much needed revenue for the Council who have ring fenced the use of this money for recreational purposes including the staging of the Samhain festival, the DLR Bay 10k road race and for the upgrade of many playgrounds in the area.”
