150 Ballincollig jobs boost a welcome sign of the recovery in Cork – Collins
23rd September 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
“The recent Ballincollig jobs boost is a welcome sign of the economic recovery in County Cork”, says Fine Gael Cork North West TD, Áine Collins.
“I recently attended Asystec Data Management Solutions who recently opened their fantastic new Suite & Innovation Lab in Ballincollig and announced 50 new jobs. In the same week I was in Esentire who also opened their European headquarters in Ballincollig, with plans for over 100 new jobs over the next five years.
“It is a really great vote of confidence in Ballincollig to have major international companies locating their European Headquarters here.
“Over 125,000 new jobs have been added since the launch of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs in February 2012 and it is pivotal to the success of our plan to see places like Ballincollig playing a real part in the jobs recovery.
“With large international companies locating and expanding in places like Ballincollig, we are experiencing a really positive knock on effect on smaller businesses in the local economy. Research shows that for every 10 Enterprise Ireland jobs created, 10 more are supported in the rest of the economy, while 10 IDA jobs support another seven jobs. We must continue the work to support all businesses and a key focus for me is around supporting family businesses. I recently spearheaded a Fine Gael small business campaign which has examined ways to make like easier for small business owners by easing the tax burden, and the need to standardise the tax treatment of the self- employed and PAYE workers.
“There is a false perception that a lot of the jobs created have been in Dublin or the major cities but this is just not true. Almost 64% of the new jobs created are outside Dublin and every region is now experiencing jobs growth and falling unemployment and I look forward to Cork continuing to do well in this regard and everyone working together to make this happen.”
