Video initiative allows young people to voice concerns ahead of European elections – Harris

Fine Gael TD for Wicklow-East Carlow and Candidate for Ireland South, Simon Harris, has today (Thursday) welcomed a new youth advocacy project ahead of the European Elections. European Movement Ireland and a number of partners are bringing together a group of 18 to 25 year olds as part of the 32-county initiative.

‘My MEP – My Voice’ involves creating a video outlining the concerns of young people in Ireland ahead of the European Elections. Deputy Harris met with participants at a session in Dublin earlier where they spent the morning sharing their ideas and experiences before putting together their film with the help of Young Irish Film Makers.

Deputy Harris said: ‘I very much welcome this new initiative which engages young people with European issues and encourages them to consider what’s of relevance to them ahead of the elections in May’.

“As the youngest member of the Dáil and indeed the youngest candidate in Ireland for the forthcoming European Elections, I very much encourage youth engagement in politics.

“As a candidate for Ireland South in the upcoming European elections, I look forward to hearing from 18 to 25 year olds about the issues that matter to them. European decisions are crucial for our country’s future and its future generations. We need to make sure young voices are heard.

“I will be travelling all over the constituency of Ireland South over the next few months and hope to engage with the public on their European concerns.”
