Statement by Minister Alan Shatter TD on Mount Carmel Hospital liquidation application
24th January 2014 - Sarah Meade
“I am saddened to learn of the liquidation application that came before the courts today in respect of Mount Carmel Hospital. The hospital has provided caring medical and maternity services for many decades with a compassionate and dedicated staff of both doctors and nurses. I believe it has, over the decades, provided a valued service from which patients who not only live locally, but also from across the country, have benefitted.
“I can understand that this is a difficult time for all associated with the hospital and, in particular, the doctors, nurses, clerical and all other staff whose jobs may be lost. It is my hope that the engagement of the liquidator results in a continuation of the hospital under new management and all of the jobs presently at risk having some prospect of being saved.”
