28th November 2014 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Louth, Peter Fitzpatrick, has said that National Lottery Grants allocated by the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar TD will make a big difference to a number of organisations and groups in Dundalk, Carlingford and Drogheda.
“Minister Varadkar has allocated National Lottery Grants to a number of organisations in Louth which are greatly in need of support and which do excellent work in the community.
“Áit na Daoine – Cuidigh Linn in Dundalk will receive €2,000 which will go towards purchasing equipment to maintain older people’s homes. Also in Dundalk, Louth Community Men’s Shed will receive €5,000 towards the cost of funding a men shed tool kit to guide the emerging men’s sheds in Ireland.
“Marie Gorreti Foundation of Lordship Respite Ltd has been allocated €30,000 to complete the respite facility for children with disabilities and life threatening conditions. This will be of huge benefit to the people of Louth once completed.
“SNAP – Special Needs Active Parents in Dundalk will receive €2,500 to fund music therapy for children with disabilities.
“In Carlingford, Cooley Complex Ltd has been allocated €2,000 to buy equipment for the Active Retirement Group, and in Drogheda, the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Ireland will receive €1,400 to fund yoga classes for people with MS. The Drogheda Arthritis Ireland Group will also receive €3,528 to deliver ten weekly aqua aerobics classes for people with arthritis.
“National Lottery funding is allocated to groups and organisations involved in the provision of health and personal services. This funding goes towards once off projects that can be carried out in a reasonable period of time. This is extremely valuable funding as it allows for development projects and schemes that make a real difference to service users and positively impact on the level of support groups can provide.
“Minister Varadkar was determined that as many groups as possible would benefit from the National Lottery fund and I welcome the allocation of this funding to these excellent groups in County Louth.”
